Management of the atrophic edentulous maxilla can present significant challenges for both the restoring dentist and the surgical team. The objectives of this lecture will be to review the different treatment options for the management of the atrophic maxilla, as well as to discuss the role of zygomatic implants in treating these complex cases. Overview of the indications, techniques, advantages, and potential complications associated with zygomatic implants will be discussed.

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss different treatment options for the management of the atrophic maxilla
  • Discuss the role of zygomatic implants when treating complex cases

 Dr. Sohail Saghezchi is a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. He received his DDS degree from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in 2002 and was honored with the Dean’s Award for graduating salutatorian. He subsequently went into private practice as a general dentist with his father for eight years. 

In 2010, he gave up his practice and returned to formal education to begin a one-year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery internship at UCSF. Dr. Saghezchi began the six-year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency program at UCSF the following year. He received his Medical Degree from UCSF School of Medicine in 2015, completed a one-year General Surgery internship at UCSF in 2016, and graduated from the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency program in 2017. Dr. Saghezchi continued at UCSF as a full-time clinical faculty member after graduation.
