OKU-Omega Omega Chapter Awards
Certificate of Academic Excellence
The “Certificate of Academic Excellence” is given to one first- and one second-year dental student that attained the highest cumulative grade point average in their respective class. These students also receive a $1,000 scholarship.
Dr. Anthony R. Volpe Excellence in Research Award
Omega Omega Chapter has established an award that is given to a pre-doctoral dental student at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine who demonstrates outstanding research activity in the dental or biomedical sciences fields.
Dr. William S. Kramer Award of Excellence
The purpose of the “Dr. William S. Kramer Award of Excellence” is to recognize a rising third year dental student at each component chapter school who has demonstrated scholarship, character, and the potential promise for advancement of dentistry and service to humanity as shown by Dr. William S. Kramer’s dedication to his profession, his specialty, and the principles and ideals of Omicron Kappa Upsilon.
Student Professionalism Awards
The Student Professionalism Award is presented to a student who displays exemplary professional or humanistic conduct within the RSDM community.
Academy of Operative Dentistry - to the fourth-year student who has exemplified outstanding achievement in Operative Dentistry activities and service to their school or the local community.
Academy of Osseointegration - to the fourth- year student who has exemplified excellence in implant dentistry.
American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry - to the fourth- year student who has demonstrated the most clinical proficiency and interest in esthetic dentistry.
American Academy of Gold Foil Operators – to the fourth-year student who has shown outstanding qualities as a scholar and clinician in Operative Dentistry, particularly direct gold and rubber dam application and intra coronal cast gold restorations.
American Academy of Implant Dentistry Award – to the fourth-year student who has demonstrated the most interest, academically and clinically in implant dentistry.
American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology - to the graduating student who has demonstrated exemplary aptitude and achievement in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology.
American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Award - to the graduating student who has exhibited the greatest interest and accomplishment in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology.
American Academy of Oral Medicine - to the fourth-year dental student who has shown greatest interest in the cause, prevention, and control of diseases of the oral cavity and adnexa.
American Academy of Orofacial Pain Award - to the outstanding student who has shown the greatest interest in the commitment to temporomandibular disorder (TMD) and orofacial pain.
American Academy of Periodontology - to the fourth-year student who has excelled in the field of Periodontics.
American Association of Endodontists - to the graduating student who has exhibited the greatest interest and accomplishment in Endodontics.
American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons – to the graduating fourth-year who has demonstrated exemplary aptitude and achievement in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery.
American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (Implant Award) – to the graduating fourth-year who has demonstrated exemplary aptitude and achievement in the field of oral and maxillofacial implants.
American Association of Orthodontists - to the fourth-year dental student who has shown exceptional interest in the development of oro-facial complex.
American Association of Public Health Dentistry - to the fourth-year student who has demonstrated a special interest/achievement in community dentistry and dental public health.
American Association of Women Dentists - the Eleanor Bushee Senior Student Dental Award - established to recognize fourth-year women dental students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and academic excellence.
American College of Dentists, New Jersey Section - to the fourth-year student who has exhibited outstanding achievement in scholarship and the technical skill of dentistry and exhibits high ethical and moral standards.
American College of Prosthodontists - to the outstanding fourth-year student who has shown high academic and clinical proficiency in prosthodontics.
American Dental Society of Anesthesiology - to the fourth-year student who has shown proficiency in the field of anesthesia in dentistry.
American Equilibration Society - to the most deserving graduating fourth-year for outstanding performance in the science of occlusion and temporomandibular joint function during his/her undergraduate dental education.
American Student Dental Association Award of Excellence – to the fourth-year student in recognition of the spirit of volunteerism and student participation in leadership.
Certificate of Merit AAPD Pre-doctoral Student Award – to the fourth-year student who has shown the greatest proficiency in the field of Dentistry for Children.
Chesky Kleiner Humanitarian Award - to the fourth-year dental student who, in the judgment of the students and faculty, has exemplified outstanding ethical standards and beliefs resulting in humanitarian practices.
Dental Lifeline Network- Brian D. Stone Award – to the fourth-year student who has shown a strong interest in community outreach, volunteerism, and/or interest in working with special populations.
Dr. Anthony R. Volpe Endowed Award for Excellence in Periodontics - bestowed upon a fourth-year student who excelled in the discipline of Periodontics during his/her third year.
Dr. Carmine LoMonaco Student Leadership Award – bestowed upon a fourth-year student who has shown outstanding leadership skills, has taken advantage of professional development opportunities, and has a true commitment to the profession of dentistry. The goal of this award is to encourage future dentists to remain active in professional associations once they graduate and to become leaders in the field of dentistry.
Dr. Frank E. Frates Endowed Award - to the fourth- year student who was determined to be the best clinician among the graduating students by three of the doctors on the clinic floor. Is very professional, on time, neat, and compassionate.
Dr. Irwin Quinn Memorial Award – to the fourth-year student who has exhibited excellent qualities of empathy professionalism, management skills, and scientific knowledge while caring for his/her patients.
Dr. Jeanne Sinkford Student Leadership Award – to the fourth-year dental student for outstanding advocacy for diversity, equity, and inclusion, engagement in community service and championship for access to oral healthcare and health equity for underserved and disadvantaged populations.
Dr. Uriel Gunthorpe Award – to the outstanding deserving fourth-year student who has exhibited leadership and professionalism and is dedicated to advancement of dentistry through service.
Drs. Alan and Mimi Vella Endowed Award - Provides support to the top ranked SDM graduating student determined by the highest GPA as of March 1 each year.
Indian Dental Association of North America Award – to the fourth-year student of Indian origin who has shown an outstanding spirit of volunteerism, student participation in leadership activities and service to the dental school and the community.
International College of Dentists Humanitarian Award – to the fourth- year student who has demonstrated significant leadership and exemplary character traits when participating in humanitarian service projects.
International College of Dentists Leadership Award– to the fourth- year student who has shown the greatest professional growth and development.
International Congress of Oral Implantologists - to the fourth-year dental student who displays the greatest interest and commitment to oral implantology/implant dentistry.
New Jersey Academy for Pediatric Dentistry – to the graduating students who manifest the greatest interest and motivation in dealing with and treating children.
New Jersey Dental Association Award – to the fourth-year student who has demonstrated excellence in community service.
New Jersey Dental Association Give Kids a Smile Outreach Award – to the student(s) who has made a significant impact on the lives of children in need.
New York Academy of Dentistry Ethics Award – to the fourth-year dental student who represents high standards of ethics and professionalism.
Northeastern Society of Periodontics, Inc. – to the fourth-year student for his/her outstanding work in periodontics.
Omega Omega Chapter Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society – to the fourth-year students from the upper 20% of the graduating class who rank highest in scholarship for the period in attendance at a dental school. Of the 20%, not more than 12% of the entire class, who, in addition to scholarship, have demonstrated exemplary traits of character and potential qualities of future professional growth and attainments, are elected to alumni membership.
Pierre Fauchard Academy Award - to the outstanding and deserving individual who has exhibited leadership and dedication to the advancement of dental literature.
Quintessence Award for Clinical Achievement in Periodontics – to the fourth-year student who demonstrates excellence in clinical periodontics.
Quintessence Award for Clinical Achievement in Restorative Dentistry – to the fourth-year student who demonstrates excellence in restorative dentistry.
Quintessence Award for Research Achievement – to the fourth-year student who demonstrates excellence in research.
Rutgers School of Dental Medicine Student Leadership/Distinguished Service Award - to members of the fourth-year class who have shown dedication to the NJDS and exhibit leadership abilities.
Stanley S. Bergen, Jr., M.D., Medal of Excellence - awarded annually by each school of the University to the graduating student who best exemplifies academic excellence. A distinctive medal shall be presented to each recipient.
The American Prosthodontic Society - to the graduate who has demonstrated the highest level of clinical proficiency and greatest interest in prosthodontic dentistry.
The Society for Color and Appearance in Dentistry - to the graduate who, during this year has demonstrated the highest level of clinical or research proficiency and greatest interest in color and appearance in esthetic dentistry.
United States Public Health Service Dental Award of Excellence - To the graduating student who embraces the USPHS core values: good academic standing, interest in community or dental health through extracurricular activities, and some interest in serving underserved populations in a public health setting.
Whip Mix Corporation Prosthodontic Award - to a graduating student who has exhibited the greatest interest and accomplishment in Prosthodontics.
