Thursday Talks: Kathy Hawkins

Next up, we are featuring Kathy Hawkins, management assistant for the Department of Endodontics at RSDM.

Tell us a bit about yourself and what you do at RSDM.

I started here as a temp in the human resources department when UMDNJ was in the process of transitioning to Rutgers in 2013. I then moved to the Pediatric Department as a temporary management assistant, until I was hired permanently in Endodontics. In this role, I work closely with the entire department, including faculty members, dental assistants, post-graduate students, and schedulers. 

What do you like the most about RSDM?

I really like the people in my department. I think we work very well together; everyone is nice and respectful of each other’s time. Even other departments have said how well our department works together and has a positive environment.

What do you enjoy doing outside the school?

I enjoy making jewelry for myself and my loved ones, shopping, and spending time with my family. I have a husband and two sons that I am super proud of. They’re 27 and 22. I also serve as a caregiver for my 92-year-old mother.
