Oral Pathology Treatment

In addition to providing expert care for the teeth, our team can also diagnose and treat a variety of conditions related to the mouth, including oral lesions. If you're experiencing discomfort and other issues resulting from oral lesions, our oral pathology specialists can help relieve symptoms and restore oral health. To learn more, contact our Newark or New Brunswick locations today.

What are Oral Lesions?

Oral lesions include ulcers, bumps, cuts, or sores that develop on the oral mucosa, the smooth pink skin found inside the mouth. These lesions can be very painful and affect a person’s ability to eat, talk and perform other basic functions. Most typically caused by infection, oral lesions are fairly common and can appear due to a number of conditions. In rare cases, however, they may be a warning sign of a more serious illness. Common causes of oral lesions include:

  • Trauma
  • Oral thrush or other infections
  • Canker sores
  • Some autoimmune diseases
  • Dry mouth (xerostomia)
  • Stomatitis
  • Oral cancer

Patients experiencing discomfort caused by oral lesions should seek treatment immediately, both to alleviate pain and to rule out more serious conditions.

Caring for Oral Lesions

At Rutgers Health University Dental Associates, our oral pathology specialists can diagnose and treat patients suffering from mouth lesions.  They’ll start by learning your medical history and evaluating your mouth, as well as your overall health. Our offices have access to the latest diagnostic and imaging equipment to help ensure an accurate diagnosis. A biopsy of the lesion may also be taken to help our doctors learn more about its presentation and causes.

Once a diagnosis is made, we can form a personalized treatment plan to help get you on the road to recovery. Treatment varies from one case to the next, but may include prescription creams and medications or even surgery.  Your oral pathology specialist will determine which treatment is best for your needs and work with our other specialists to coordinate care.

Don’t Wait – Schedule an Appointment Today

If you're experiencing discomfort caused by mouth lesions, find answers and get relief for your pain as soon as possible. Schedule an appointment with one of our oral pathology experts in Newark or New Brunswick to begin treatment and achieve better oral health.
